Why Core Aeration is Essential for Oklahoma Soil

Oklahoma clay soils easily compact under foot traffic, mowing, and weather changes. Compacted soil blocks air, water, and essential nutrients from reaching your grass roots, leading to shallow rooting, thin turf, and heavy thatch buildup. Core aeration extracts small soil plugs across your lawn, opening pathways for nutrients to penetrate deeply and forcing roots to grow stronger and deeper.

Our Core Aeration & Lawn Services

Core Aeration (Bermuda, Zoysia & Fescue)

Commercial aerators pull 2-to-3 inch soil cores across your turf, relieving severe Oklahoma clay compaction, breaking up thatch, and opening direct pathways for water, oxygen, and root expansion.

Fall Fescue Overseeding Package

Mandatory annual treatment for Oklahoma Fescue lawns. Aeration creates thousands of micro-pockets for seed-to-soil contact, allowing our premium turf-type tall Fescue blend to establish deep roots before frost.

Starter Fertilization & Root Conditioning

Applying enriched starter phosphorus and soil conditioners directly into core holes accelerates seedling establishment and powers rapid spring green-up.

Lawn Aeration & Overseeding FAQs

When is the best time to aerate and overseed my lawn?

For Fescue lawns, early fall (mid-September through October) is the prime window when warm soil aids fast seed germination and cooler air reduces stress. For Bermuda or Zoysia lawns, core aeration is performed in late spring through early summer during peak active growth.

Why must Fescue lawns be overseeded every fall in Oklahoma?

Unlike Bermuda grass which spreads laterally through runners, Fescue is a cool-season bunch grass that thins out over hot Oklahoma summers. Annual fall overseeding is essential to replenish thinning turf, repair bare spots, and establish dense grass that naturally crowds out weeds.

How should I water my lawn after overseeding Fescue?

Keep the top inch of soil consistently moist until new seedlings reach approximately 2 inches tall (about 10 to 14 days). Water lightly 2 to 3 times per day for 5 to 10 minutes per zone. Once established, transition to deeper, less frequent watering to encourage deep root development.

What should I do with the soil plugs left on the lawn?

Leave the plugs on the lawn! They contain beneficial microorganisms that break down thatch. The plugs will dissolve back into the soil after a few waterings or rains, usually within 1 to 2 weeks.

How often should an Oklahoma lawn be aerated?

Because Oklahoma soil contains dense red clay that compacts heavily under mowing and foot traffic, annual core aeration is strongly recommended to maintain deep root health, water permeability, and fertilizer efficiency.
